The institute shall have the following objectives.

Generate, develop and adapt agricultural technologies that are in accordance with the regional agricultural and development policy and strategy and improve the living standard of the population and region.

Coordinate research activities of agro-pastoral and pastoral research centers, higher learning institutes and other related establishment, which undertake agro-pastoral and pastoral researches.

Build up a research capacity and establish a system that will make agro-pastoral and pastoral research as efficient, effective ad concurrent with the development needs of the region.

Popularize agro-pastoral and pastoral research results.
